Research Engineer
@ Boston University
Jul 2024 - Current
Fulltime Aug 2025 - Current
At Boston University’s Wheelock Institute for the Science of Education (WISE), I contribute to three educational initiatives spanning literacy, game-based learning, and generative AI.
National Center on Improving Literacy: As the sole developer, I led a full redesign and platform migration from Wix to WordPress, collaborating with stakeholders to develop a new visual identity in Figma before implementing it from scratch using the Bricks theme. I handle all ongoing maintenance and continue building out new content and functionality.
NumberShire: As the sole backend developer, I maintain and extend a Node.js backend supporting a Unity/WebGL math game, and manage a teacher and researcher dashboard that surfaces student knowledge gaps and measures the impact of gameplay on learning outcomes. I also deployed both services on a new OpenShift project using Kubernetes tooling.
Chan Zuckerberg Initiative-funded Research: Built a web game prototype for pronunciation evaluation using Azure Speech Recognition to assess player responses in real-time, and am currently working cross-team to architect infrastructure that aggregates data across multiple sources into a holistic view of student performance, with a focus on actionable insights through visualization and generative AI.
Contract Jul 2024 - Aug 2025
During my initial time contracting with BU WISE, I explored the use of generative AI as a tool for coaching students through a game with feedback informed by their gameplay.
